Today we are working on simile poems.
Here are some examples of simile poems. Greater Than That by Joyce Garacci Like a bruised, little bird Too confused to fly, I'm trapped, in a word, So confined am I. A captive, collared lion Alone in its pen, I'm pacin' and dyin' In a manmade den. For an eagle was not meant To be locked in a cage, Its life to be spent Like a picture on a page. Before the Storm by Kelly Roper The air was heavy like a wet towel that needed to be rung out, And the thunderheads began to rumble like an angry volcano. The wind stirred up in fury like a swarm of locusts suddenly taking flight, And then the heavens opened and drenched the thirsty earth. Berkley by anonymous Black as midnight, Bad as the devil With eyes like pieces of dark chocolate, He thinks he’s king of the world, My dog Berkley. He’s very much like a pig With his pudgy stomach and all. Like a leech, he’s always attached To his next meal. Even though he’s as bad as the devil, Berkley is my best fellow. Birdsby anonymous Chirping non-stop, like a machine in the trees, Building their nest like little worker bees. They sing their songs, like chatter-boxes. As regular as alarm clocks, Waking people up each day. They are silent at night, Like snakes advancing on prey.
